Where we'll be on New Year's Eve!

Brighton always goes quiet over Christmas - loads of people go away to visit family. New Year is a different matter entirely. come the 31st Dec it all kicks off and goes mental. Everywhere is rammed and there's some right old sights. Last year we went to Lucky Voice, got pie-eyed on Buddah beer and sang our tits off 'til 4am. Then walked home barefoot. Classy.

This year we're going to Born Bad, the most excellent rock and roll night in Brighton. I'm really looking forward to a good old fashioned knees-up, I'm quite partial to a bit 50s and 60s music(those that have seen my record collection will confirm this as FACT) and I'm getting more and more into rock and roll as I get older. Born Bad play some really obscure stuff so I know I'm in for a treat. I'm already planning my outfit. It has to be dressy but danceable so am thinking the By Malene Birger Pepina sequinned jacket, and black ski pants with lowish kitten heels so that I can strut my stuff. No bag - husband can carry keys, money and lipstick. I'll probably get some kind of quiffy action going on - poundshop hairspray is the best for keeping my 'do in place on dance nights. What are you doing NYE?

Jingle balls at nola

Here's our Christmas window - please excuse the picture, my camera (and photography skills) are rather shabby. Still, you get the idea. We've decided to focus on jewellery this season and we think that the display of our Zoe & Morgan, Alex Monroe, Disney Couture and Jacey Withers collections is really eye-catching. Priced from £15 to £350, we've got lovely pieces to suit all budgets.

With thanks to Alexis and Ian from FentonForeman in Brighton for assistance with the design and contruction.

American Vintage SS11

I'm off up that London on Monday to buy the SS11 American Vintage. If you are unaware of the brand, American Vintage is a French basics label set up by Mickael Azoulay in 2005. Focusing on good quality fabrics and simple easy to wear pieces, American Vintage is best known for it's layering styles.

We've been selling it in nola since 2005 and our customers love each new collection and buy it by the armful! Next SS11 sees the label focussing on beautiful soft neutral palettes which are fantastic for the Spring. They have introduced some brighter colours for the Summer drop - mustards and sky blues add colour pops to our wardrobes. And again, the fabrics are soooo soft yet durable!

Can't wait to see it!

The only way to travel

Well the snow has ground Brighton to a halt, no trains, buses and walking is a pain in the butt. I was strolling through Churchill Square (after having my eyebrows threaded by the lovely Simon at The Brow Studio) and was fantasising about alternative forms of travel during snowier times and I came across this! Now, for those of you who know me, already know that I adore a pony, but to own a mechanical fantasy pony would just blow my mind AND solve all my travel woes. Especially if it could fly too. And have a heated saddle, and have a place to store gin.

by Malene Birger Winter Cape Coat

Brrr. It's coat time. And this by Malene Birger number is a corker. Shaped in a feminine, military cape style, it's a good compromise between the coat and cape. Great for wearing chunky jumpers underneath when it's really nippy but ideal for lighter knitwear when we get a bit warmer (Spring?). It's one of Malene's "Darlings" - one of a select few pieces that she chooses as her favourite of the season. It's been really popular in store, priced at £245.
Stick a big chunky scarf on top of it and go for long contemplative Winter walks.

Handknitted Tam O' Shanter anyone?

It's getting a bit nippy down here in Brighton - when the wind whips up from the sea, it can freeze all kinds of extremities. We've been selling these lovely Tam hats by Eribe really well over the last couple of days. Made from 100% Scottish lambswool, Eribe Tam hats are based on traditional Scottish designs with a contemporary twist. They are all hand knitted. At £65 we think they're a bargain. And they keep our ears warm too.

Sneak preview By Malene Birger SS11

Well, the forecast today in good ol' Brighton is rain rain rain, so I'm cheering myself up with another look at next seasons collections. I always love looking at what I've bought for next season and the Malene Birger SS11 is really lovely. I always find that Malene gets quite structured and edgy in Autumn/Winter which can be difficult for some women to wear. However she always softens things up for Spring/Summer. For next season the silhouettes are dominated by the new length drawn from the skirts and dresses of the 50s, and the lean, cool suiting from menswear. Focus is paid to separates. High waist skirts are used with floaty feminine blouses to create a sexy and classic form. Pants are pleated for extra volume – either with carrot shaped or wide legs. Also, we're offered amazing all in one jumpsuits for a casual yet revealingly sexy look.

Tops are floaty, feminine, blousey affairs or over-sized tees. Team these with a formal jacket and you have the ideal Spring workwear wardrobe. The Spring palette is quite muted, lots of khaki, tobacco, sludgy browns and creams - lots of earthy colours. The High Summer pieces are again very feminine and sexy, but more playful and the colours are brighter with orange shades being quite prevelant - shades such as "Coralish" and, my personal fave, "Peachy Lips"!

So there it is, lots of jumpsuits, different length skirts and trouser shapes, great colours, and my prediction for the dress (the Meliasa shown in the photo) that all the press are going to call in as a must have for the season......

You're gonna love it.

Socks and Swedish Hasbeens in Winter?

Having a shoe crisis. How this can possibly happen when I have a wardrobe full of fabulous shoes and boots is beyond me, but I am in full blown shoe panic. I'm not prepared to spend money on shoes that I'm only going to like for a week, so until I find the perfect pair of day shoes (and believe me I'm searching) then I'm making my Summer shoes earn their keep.

Normally I'd run around in a pair of Bloch ballet flats as they are so comfy or my sturdy brogues but today I fancied a bit of a heel. I've got some amazing heels but none of them inspired me today, as I really wanted to wear socks. After trying everything I own on, I settled for my silver Swedish Hasbeen peep toe clogs from this Summer as they clashed really well with my Pringle socks and cargo pants. I quite like it, and surprisingly not too cold on the tootsies as wood is an insulator. What do you think?

My Mad Men Image

Was a bit bored before work this morning and whilst I SHOULD have gone to the gym, I decided that I REALLY needed to create my Mad Men persona. Had ten minutes of fun putting together an outfit but could only download this small image. What you don't see is my breakfastini which I would much prefer to be drinking instead of this cold tea.
